In 2011 the Boy Scouts of America launched an program entitled the Faith Based Initiative to foster a closer relationship between Troops, Packs and Crews with their Religious Sponsoring Institutions, as well as building new relationships with Faith-based institutions to promote forming new units. As part of this initiative, there has been a new focus on the Religious Awards or Emblems program at all levels of the BSA.
